Burn the Mortgage !

In September of 2006, we owed nearly $160,000 dollars on the mortgage on our church.  We decided that we needed to pay off that amount as quickly as possible.  The monthly mortgage payment of nearly $2,000.00 was a burden and a distraction from stewardship efforts that could be better used for the work of God in the world. 

By September 2008, the balance will be down below $100,000, reduced by nearly $60,000 in two years.  With God's help and the work and sacrifice of many, we hope to have the balance paid before the mortgage terms are up in 2010. 

Jesus promised that where two or three are gathered together in His name, He would be in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20). 

We of First Congregational Church have accepted responsibility for the stewardship of God's gifts to us, acknowledging His presence in the midst of all that we are have and do.  Stewardship is not limited to the Sunday morning offering, but rather is a call to manage our time, talents and treasure wisely through-out the week.  Steward-ship is not something someone else does; it is our response to God's claim on our lives.
